CSR Middle East Update / February 2012

Regional business had a very busy month on the Corporate Social Responsibility agenda in February 2012 in the Middle East.

 

February has started with three important CSR meetings in the region, one of them hosted by Vodafone in Qatar, the quarterly gathering of “CSR Majlis” (http://goo.gl/RX4kn), and the other one was the most discussed CSR forum, held by Saudi Aramco; “To establish a common governing framework in this vital area” said Nasser Al-Nafisi, General Manager, Public Affairs at Saudi Aramco (http://goo.gl/7Jtem). The last one was from Oman, Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) organised Oman Social Responsibility Conference (http://goo.gl/hAJTg).

 

Henkel has been selected among the top five companies, which received the prestigious King Khaled Award for Responsible Competitiveness for 2011 (http://goo.gl/jvT3Z). Volunteers for Etisalat UAE’s CSR initiative, Ayaadi, held a one-day event called ‘Envirocare Day’, which was dedicated to supporting the environment. (http://goo.gl/U4zeO). The Omani Women’s Association (OWA) in Al Buraimi became the latest beneficiary of Oman LNG’s far reaching social investment program. (http://goo.gl/5ncwH). MIT Sloan Management Review announced their latest report with the following finding; More than 80% of organizations in Middle East and Africa indicate increased level of commitment to sustainability in 2012 (http://goo.gl/Bmwi8). Al Rajhi and Partners - a diversified Saudi family office and investment company - has joined a growing and illustrious list of companies who are founding partners of the Pearl Initiative, the corporate governance initiative set up in cooperation with the United Nations Office of Partnerships (http://goo.gl/SWv4X). Nestle Egypt held a press conference on the occasion of the signing of a partnership with the Ministry of Education, seeking to enhance the quality and content of Nutrition Education for children, and to raise a healthy young generation (http://goo.gl/RDhGA). In-line with du’s CSR efforts, the telecommunications company observed UAE National Environment Day by hosting a workshop for its employees (http://goo.gl/DOlyI). Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait announced its new CSR slogan ‘Our Society ... Our Responsibility’ (http://goo.gl/956mF). Kia Motors Corporation, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to confirm its support for the organization's hallmark World Environment Day (WED) (http://goo.gl/ospZ1). National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) has released its annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report 2011 (http://goo.gl/q7WzS).
