Job Purpose:

  

This position offers opportunities to help shape industry practice, government policy and helps QGBC in playing an active role in influencing and delivering QGBC’s ongoing programmatic work. The Head of Sustainability will develop an in depth understanding of technical knowledge in the area of sustainability related to some key areas of government policy and how they impact the industry; and on some high profile marketed-led activities. An important part of the role is collaboration with the Technical Committee to interact with a wide range of external stakeholders, including other organizations in this sector.

 

Key Result Areas:

  

The following responsibilities will evolve over time in line with QGBC’s programs:

  • Work with QGBC corporate members on the measurement and reporting of sustainability impacts, from corporate to building level.
  • Contribute towards the setting of common metrics for assessing buildings including the international ‘Common Carbon Metric’, in collaboration with a range of organizations.
  • Provide input into the ongoing development of industry tools and develop relevant ‘database’
  • Research, evaluate and liaise with internationally recognized rating systems to influence the government buildings policy.
  • Pave the way to partnership relations with the government and major likeminded organizations to help transform the market to apply green building standards, e.g. Qatar General Organization for Standards and Metrology (QGOSM), Ashgal, Municipality, Ministry of Environment.
  • As part of the technical committee, assist in the development and updating of Green Building Best Practices Guidelines as per the industry needs.
  • Assess proposals and credentials received from corporate member a company offering green products, materials and services particularly manufactures.
  •  Build a database of local, regional and international green building service, materials, suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Guide the Education Coordinator in the development and implementation of an internal sustainability and green building training curriculum attributed to QGBC.
  • Guide the Research Specialist in the development and implementation of an internal sustainability and green building training curriculum attributed to QGBC.
  • Assist with the financial and budgetary requirements of the technical committee within the budget constraint.
  • Develop technical content for grant and contract proposals.
  • Provide clear and well-written memorandums, and reports, analyses, calculations to various clients.
  • Meet and contact consultants/ clients as appropriate to discuss and review project credits and provide recommendations.
  • Remain current on issues related to sustainable and green building design, WGBC, regional and international GBCs activities, and the various Green Building Rating Systems;

Across each of these policy areas, day to day activities:

  • Attend all technical committee meetings and act as the QGBC lead in subcommittees in coordination with the Head of the Technical Committee.
  • With the Tech Committee Head, representing QGBC in a range of meetings, forums, both government and industry.
  • Input to the preparation of press releases and newsletter relevant to the technical committee’s work.
  • Develop and communicate periodic reports on the technical committee progress and plans.

Assist the Chairman in preparing presentations with technical information and provide technical input to QGBC seminars, conferences and other events.

 

 

Desired Skills & Experience

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree with at least 5 years of experience.
  • Experience of working in the building/ property sector, wither industry, government or other stakeholder group.
  • Strong technical background.
  • Ability to work as part of a team to tight deadlines.
  • Managing multiple priorities.
  • Analysis capabilities and research.
  • Willing to work long hours.
  • Ability to build consensus from potentially competing viewpoints.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic.
