Director of Sustainability

Job Description

Main Operations: 

- Abides by company by-laws including policies and procedures and proposes changes to the above when necessary. 
- Abides by the authorities granted to the position as per the delegation of authority structure. 
- Discuss the objectives, requirements, and budget of the project. 

- Support the Project Manager in solving problems that may occur during the construction. 
- Advise on and make necessary changes throughout the planning process in order to meet compliance with USGBC LEED certification and/or to help achieve a high performance ‘green’ building. 

- Prepare proposals, contracts, reviews, estimates, pre-evaluations, and USGBC LEED submittals. Meet with client, project architect, planners, engineers, contractors, consultants, and tenant (when appropriate) in order to provide effective sustainability design and USGBC LEED services. 

- Conduct regularly scheduled workshops or ‘charrettes’ with project team members in accordance with USGBC LEED guidelines. 

- Train team members, as needed, to become LEED accredited professionals. 


- Review the submittals (shop drawings or materials) submitted by the Contractor to the Consultant, comments and recommend the action to be taken by the project Manager, as required to comply with USGBC LEED. 

- Visit the site when required, to check on the progress and quality. 

- Where required by USGBC LEED program review the progress work in both design and construction and the defect rectification. 


- Provide, when possible, public education to the community to help promote sustainability principles; in the form of lectures, seminars, exhibits, training, and community project involvement. 

- Participate in conferences related to sustainability, as delegate, speaker, and exhibitor whenever possible. 

- Participate as an active member in local, regional, national and international organizations, such as USGBC, EMIRATES Green Building Council, etc. 

- Identify requirement for Sustainability Design deliverables in terms of scope and time. 

- Coordinate with the Designers to ensure objectives of scope and time are achieved. 

- Review value Engineering & build ability studies in relation to sustainability principles. 

- Facilitate Innovation. 

- Assess and advise on the implications of Sustainability Design Variations. 

- Agree the procurement of any additional specialist Sustainability Design Services that become necessary. 

- Organize and supervise the review and comment upon Sustainability Design submittals. 

- Responsible to obtain from client, team and others, review comments for return issuance to the Sustainability Designers. 

- Assist in developing a corporate Sustainability Policy and Corporate Social Responsibility Policy (CSR). 

- Responsible for efficiency & effectivity of dept members 

- Set out budget in coordination with C-level & Commercial and Contracts department. 

- Business development 

- Monitor and Report department’s performance 

- Request & conduct training when necessary 

- Include Estimada (Pearl Rating) 

- Other duties as and when assigned 

Coordination: 
- Coordinate all activities related to the Sustainability Services management. 
Additional Duties: 
- Any other task assigned by superior / reporting head. 
Communication 

Internal: 
-Regular meeting with COO / CTO to obtain guideline and direction. 

- Meeting, as required with department heads for handling Sustainability Services issues. 
External: 

- As required, contacts with consultants, clients, media, and organizations

Skills

Education: Masters of Architecture 
Being Lead AP & Estidama PQP 
Experience: 12-15 years experience in managing design/architect activities in a Project management / Architectural organization, with particular emphasis on ‘green’ building practices and high performance buildings and sustainable communities.
