    Professional Background

I possess more than 12 years of professional experience including 7 years in the public sector, more than 4 years in an intergovernmental regional organization, more than 5 years as a part time consultant in the private sector and 3 years freelance consultant supporting several international and regional initiatives and activities such as Nile Basin Initiative/Nile Basin Discourse. My areas of expertise involve environmental policy and management, in addition to management, monitoring and evaluation of donor-funded programmes and projects in the fields of climate change, disaster risk reduction and management, environmental governance, policy planning, social justice, international agreements and conventions concerning environmental protection and sustainable development, with fieldwork experience in Egypt, Ghana, Libya, and Yemen. My current position at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT), which is a specialized organization of League of Arab States, I supervised and managed several projects and programmes such as; 1) Supporting the AASTMT for the Enhancement and Development of the Regional Centre for Disaster Risk Reduction Database project concerning drought and precipitation in 5 Mediterranean countries through time horizon of 2010-2040; 2) Climate Change Adaptation and Natural Disasters Preparedness in Alexandria project that aimed at the assessment of climate change and natural disaster vulnerabilities of Greater Alexandria by 2030 and formulation of action plan that improves the adaptation of the city to climate change and preparedness to natural disaster. Meanwhile, I was responsible for managing the Education and Training programme and consequently I was responsible for and managed delivering vast number of online courses on comprehensive DRM framework, climate change and DRM, community-based DRM and gender aspects of DRM, in partnership with GFDRR/ World Bank. My experience at the Ministry of State for Environmental Affairs/ Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (MSEA/EEAA) enhanced my communication skills with various national, regional and international stakeholders, as well as enabled me to liaising with associated donor community effectively to conduct fund raising and to ensure effective and targeted disbursement of funds and accomplishments of project activities in the light of the proposed outputs, indicators and means of verification. Examples, I looked after several projects and programmes from the governmental side such as the Environmental Support Programme (ESP) (2004-2008) funded by DANIDA and the Support for Environmental Assessment and Management (SEAM I & II) (1994-2004) which is a major environmental programme implemented by the EEAA, Entec UK Ltd and ERM with support from the UK Department for International Development. Parallel to that, my work experience in GREEN Environment Consultants, gave me practical experience in project implementation in cooperation with other partners, such as raising the institutional capacity of General Electric Company of Libya in partnership with Cambridge Energy research Associate. Furthermore, I have been involved in several regional and international initiatives as a Team Member supporting Nile Basin Discourses Policy Influencing through drafting several Policy Briefs, Facts Sheets on climate change adaptation, gender and power projects in the Nile Basin Countries...etc, as well as drafting methodology and data collection tools with Development and Advocacy for Nile Basin Benefit Sharing and Tension Reduction Plans. Additionally, I would like point out that my previous experience in the tourism sector gave me an additional perspective and an ability and flexibility to deal with counterparts and stakeholders coming from different backgrounds, and this with a high degree of cultural sensitivity. My major strengths involve dedication to completing assigned tasks, ability to work independently under stress on projects and programmes as well as in a team. My excellent interpersonal and conflict management skills have played a key role in providing outstanding levels of support to my team.
