Professional Background
Bachelor of Environmental Science, and currently pursuing Master’s Degree in Environmental Economics. He has Diplomas in Geographical Information System (GIS), Global Position System (GPS) and Remote Sensing (RS), and Information Technology. Has vast training in ISO standards like (ISO 14001, ISO 9001 & ISO 18001) – for ISO 9001, Stephen is Accredited as a Lead Auditor by the International Register of Certificated Auditors (IRCA) which is the world's original and largest international certification body for auditors of management systems. In addition, he has attended regional and international trainings in Sustainability Accounting, Auditing, Reporting and Assurance. In addition, he has an excellent understanding of GRI and IFAC frameworks and among others. Stephen has also attended various trainings on climate change and carbon trading – conducted by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
CSR Interest & Background
Stephen is an experienced consultant practicing in environmental, sustainability and related areas. He has over 10 years of experience in a broad range of Safety, Health, Environmental, Quality and Security (SHEQS), Sustainability and related risk management issues. His areas of expertise include: Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Governance Risk and Compliance (GRC); financial reporting and disclosure of environmental issues, Sustainability programs and reporting (internal and external); new and emerging regulations and risks (including climate change and waste management); performance metrics, EHS/Sustainability auditing, EHS/Sustainability transaction and integration support; business continuity planning, focused enterprise risk assessments, benchmarking surveys, stakeholder engagement, expert witness (testifying and non-testifying). Stephen has supported clients in nearly every sector, and throughout East, Southern and Central Africa. He is particularly adept at providing business perspective on EHS issues, pollution/waste management and working with teams including Legal, Internal Audit, CEO/ CFOs, Risk Management, Accounting, Business Strategy, Supply Chain/ Procurement and others. Stephen was elected to spearhead sustainability or “green” analysis and evaluation of the East African Budgets for year 2007/08 and 2008/09, this included the insightful study of how these budgets integrated the aspects of cyclic economies which ensure ZERO wastage.
