    Professional Background

    Michael Webb is a specialist commercial barrister providing independent advice and representation on commercial, financial market, governmental, insolvency, international, regulatory and securities matters. His experience in CSR and corporate governance includes as Managing Director, Financial Sector Development and Policy Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority. In 2009 and 2010 he has been an invited speaker at the 1st and 2nd Conferences on Corporate Social Responsibility hosted by the Ministry of Business and Trade Qatar and the Qatar Institute of Directors. Michael is particularly interested in the interface between CSR, corporate governance and corporate law reform in the Middle East. He also has extensive experience as a non- executive director of major companies in New Zealand and Australia. His legal practice focuses on specialist advisory work, strategic and tactical advice, problem solving, negotiation, dispute resolution (mediation, arbitration,expert determination), investigations and inquiries, including on complex or sensitive matters, corporate and financial sector law reform,and the interface between law and public policy. Michael has been extensively involved in financial sector,commercial and regulatory issues throughout his career.He brings to those subjects experience and expertise as a lawyer, regulator and company director. Michael is available to accept retainers or appointments in New Zealand and internationally. Other appointments include: Current: - Non-executive Adviser, Board of Deloitte New Zealand - Member, Financial Markets Authority, New Zealand - Director, Academic Colleges Group Limited Prior: -2005 to 2009 Managing Director, Financial Sector Development and Policy, Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority, where his focus was developing the legal,regulatory and court regimes of the Qatar Financial Centre. -1995 to 2005 Barrister, Auckland and Wellington -1992 to 2003 Non- executive Member, and on occasions Acting Chairman,New Zealand Securities Commission -2004 to 2005 Chair, Ministerial Task Force on Financial Intermediaries, the report of which was the precursor of legislation now enacted by the New Zealand Parliament - Non-executive director of various major companies in New Zealand and Australia in the financial,education and construction sectors - Co-Convenor, Joint Insolvency Committee - Convenor New Zealand Law Society Commercial and Business Law Committee Specialties Banking, commercial, corporate, corporate governance, cross-border, electricity and gas, financial markets, governmental, insolvency, insurance,regulatory, securities law.
