    CSR Interest & Background

    1. Professional diplomat and Charge d’ Affairs at the South African Embassy in the Netherlands. Acted as Chairman to numerous social responsibility meetings and groupings, both in Europe as well as in Africa. 2. I was the Southern Africa Development Community’s advisor to the late President Mandela on all issues relating to this organization, concentrating on education, trade assistance, upliftment of communities and disaster relief. President Mandela was also instrumental in the care for children and established the Mandela Children’s Fund – receive huge contributions both from individuals and companies within South Africa and internationally. 3. Involved in disaster relief operations in countries in southern and central Africa countries, i.e. Malawi where we arranged a Hercules C160 to airlift food and supplies after folds which killed many people in the area and was declared an international disaster area. We also assisted in repairing the infrastructure and transport. 4. Chairman of KEDA (Knysna Economic Development Agency). The objective was the upliftment of poor and disadvantaged communities in the southern Cape area. This was done by establishing good communication between the communities, government as well as the private business sector. We successfully initiated new education programs, medical assistance and work creating structures in the region. 5. Department of Foreign Affairs media spokesman – I was responsible for the communication and all issues relating to all foreign media correspondents based in Southern- Africa. It was our policy to also involve the media in humanitarian issues and aid given – this added to public awareness as well as promoting the public understanding of aid given to disaster areas and humanitarian assistance to needed communities in the different regions.
