Qtel, QMA join hands to mark ‘Sports Day’

Qtel and Qatar Museums Authority (QMA) are jointly organising a day of “sporting surprises” for employees and members of the public in support of Qatar National Sports Day on February 14.
The second Tuesday of every February has been declared a national holiday to encourage activity and better public health, according to a decree issued by HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.
As part of their wider corporate social responsibility policies, Qtel and QMA will work together that day to provide full facilities for their employees and the community to engage in a wide range of sporting activities at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Park. To encourage greater enthusiasm for sports, Qtel will also extend complimentary access to all of the sports channels on Mozaic TV to all Mozaic TV customers.
From February 11 to February 16, customers will be able to watch a full range of sports on all Al Jazeera, AD Sports, Cricone, Ten Cricket, Neo Cricket, OSN Sports, Fox Sports and Extreme Sports channels.
Qtel spokesperson Fatima al-Kuwari said, “National Sports Day is a far-sighted initiative to encourage everyone in Qatar to embrace sport and a healthier lifestyle. We are proud to join hands with QMA to organise a wide range of sports in support of His Highness’ vision, and encourage everyone to join us on National Sports Day at the MIA Park.” Qatar Museums Authority Head of Talent Acquisition Abdulaziz al-Ashqaar said, “This partnership reflects our full support for the community, as we bring a diverse and engaging selection of sporting activity to the MIA Park. We hope to welcome people of all ages to the park on February 14 to enjoy participating and watching a wide range of sports.”
Team and individual sport events are being organised on the MIA Park for the event, which will take place from 9am to 7pm and is free-of-charge for entry.
Equipment and match space are being provided by Qtel and QMA, and participants are encouraged to wear sportswear. Sports being organised include the traditional ones – such as running and cycling – and more contemporary activities, such as “Human Foosball” and Frisbee.
Qtel and QMA employees will be taking part, and the two organisations have invited the public to join in, or come as spectators and enjoy the healthy, outdoor atmosphere of the MIA Park, which is accessible from the Doha Corniche.
Qtel will also be supporting “Reach Out To Asia’s Wheels ‘n’ Heels Family Fun Day at the Museum of Islamic Art Park on February 10. Executives are enthusiastic that the shared community enthusiasm will support Qatar’s bid for the 2020 Summer Olympics.
National Sports Day is a national holiday for all ministries, government departments and public sector institutions as well as the private sector.
