Professional Background

Katia Abboud was appointed Acting Public Relations and Communications Manager at ORYX GTL in December 2011. Her role encompasses departmental business planning and budgeting; conducting, monitoring and reviewing all PR and media activities, advertising, events, exhibitions and conferences, sponsorship and Corporate Social Responsibility campaigns, as well as internal communications.

She joined ORYX GTL in 2009 as Events and Media coordinator, being promoted to Head of Public Relations in 2010, developing and enhancing PRC standards, policies and procedures. Under her stewardship the Company’s corporate identity was refined; a new corporate website developed; the annual advertising campaign was coordinated, designed and implemented; and production of in-house corporate and events publications, including ORYX GTL magazine, were managed.

Besides handling ORYX GTL’s stakeholder relations, Katia has conducted internal and external social and community-orientated events; and has promoted the Company’s image via local and international conferences and exhibitions. Notably she supported Doha's bid for the National Gas Conversion Symposium 2013 (NGCS), and is a local committee member.

Prior to joining ORYX GTL, Katia was Head of Public Relations and Media at Aspire Academy for five years, where among notable achievements were handling the media and protocol for the high profile launch; launching Aspire Active (Qatar’s largest sports initaitive), and managing the branding project for the world's largest multipurpose indoor dome; and coordinating with the local and international media corps during press conferences and other media events at Aspire. Furthermore she coordinated with CNN, BBC, Eurosport, Euronews, Discovery Channel, CNBC, QTV, Al Jazeera Sport and Al Jazeera Children’s Channel during the filming of special programs and documentaries about the Academy.

On a national level and as Aspire’s Head of Protocol, Katia acted a focal point with the Emiri Diwan, organising and conducting Academy tours for the Qatari Royal Family. She also organised tours for heads of state, Olympic Committee presidents and and sports celebrities. She was also a member of the teams promoting Doha to the international media and high profile visitors, including Qatar Asian Games 2005, the World Indoor Athletics and Gymnastics Championship - Qatar, Doha’s Olympic Bid and Doha 2022.

Katia's career began in 1998 as an Integrated Marketing Communication Executive at Libantext Com – Beirut, Lebanon, carring out various marketing, communications and PR activities including managing the sales team, designing direct marketing campaigns and conducting meetings with stakeholders.

Katia holds Bachelor of Arts degree in Advertising, Marketing and Communication and English Literature, in addition to ILM Coaching Level 3 and Internal Auditing.
