Volunteers of the eighth Nawras Goodwill Journey feted

The Nawras Goodwill Journey 8 team members concluded their voyage of compassion and sharing at a homecoming and recognition ceremony held under the patronage of Maitha Saif al Mahrouqiya, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism. The event at Muscat Grand Mall marked the return of the Nawras Goodwill Journey volunteers who visited those in need within communities across the length and breadth of Oman.
Following a video screening of the main highlights of the journey, Maitha presented each volunteer with a certificate of recognition. Over the past ten days, Oman’s customer friendly communications provider donated numerous gifts including laptops, mobile phones, televisions, air conditioning units, washing machines, iPads, sewing machines and wheelchairs and headphones.
During the final event in Muscat, Saleh bin Nasser al Riyami, Nawras Board Director, said, “Fasting Nawras volunteers have travelled across the country to help those attending and running charitable organisations during the month of Ramadhan. By working together in harmony, the teams have shown they can have a more powerful and greater impact in enriching people’s lives.”
He added, “I would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to our Guest of Honour, Maitha Saif al Mahrouqiya, and to all who have worked so diligently to make the Nawras Goodwill Journey another tremendous success. Special thanks must go to Khalid al Zadjali, Nawras Events and Protocol Manager, for his inspiring leadership over the last eight years. The Nawras Goodwill Journey will continue to be an important part of the corporate social responsibility Nawras undertakes in Oman.”
On the final day, Nawras Goodwill Journey members visited the Omani Women’s Associations in Rakhyout and Dhalkout where volunteers distributed laptops and printers, televisions and a DVD player. Volunteers also brought freezers, cooking appliances, washing machines and air conditioning units to give the association a full range of new equipment.
The eighth Nawras Goodwill Journey has seen 20 volunteers visit branches of the Omani Woman’s Association across the country showing support for the great work being carried out every day by those working hard to enrich the lives of people in the Sultanate. Starting in Muscat on July 28, the Nawras convoy visited Nizwa, Dhank, Al Buraimi and Al Musannah, Al Suwaiq and Al Rustaq where donations will kick start a new tailoring business for women in the community.
On the second phase of the journey, the first stop was Qurayat, and from there the volunteers travelled south to Al Kamil W’al Wafi, Bidiya, Duqm and finally to Salalah, spreading smiles at each Omani Women’s Association visited and playing a part in developing the communities being served. Every year since 2005, fasting volunteers of the Nawras Goodwill Journey have visited over 150 charitable organisations and non-Government organisations in the Sultanate. For eight consecutive years, the journey has helped more than 7000 people and families in need and travelled over 48,000 kilometres across Oman to bring joy to local communities.
During Ramadhan, other Nawras family members have also been showing how they care. While some have been distributing packages of dates to help families at different locations across the country, a Springboard team collected funds to support less privileged families with journeys to perform Umrah and delighted children in Muscat were entertained with a traditional Qaranqasho celebration at Muscat Grand Mall.
