Vodafone Qatar launches biodegradable SIM card

Vodafone Qatar launches biodegradable SIM card

Vodafone Qatar has launched a SIM card pack that is made up of 100 percent biodegradable paper. In May last year, Vodafone initially redesigned their plastic SIM packs to use polypropylene, a recyclable material. Aside from being biodegradable, the new SIM pack contains a SIM plug-in instead of a full ISO size SIM card body and is smaller in size. This will reduce the volume of plastic disposal, as well as Vodafone’s carbon footprint.

“At Vodafone Qatar we are always trying to develop products that respect the environment and which aim to make Qatar a greener country that will with time and commitment make a world of difference for all the people in Qatar,” said Phil Worsley, Head of Operations at Vodafone Qatar “We hope this will inspire many other companies and individuals in Qatar to take steps to protect the environment in Qatar,” Worsley said. Other eco-friendly Vodafone materials include biodegradable scratch cards, which have been used by Vodafone since it launched prepaid services in September 2009. In February 2010, Vodafone launched the first Mobile recycling programme in all its retail stores, and in April 2010 Vodafone started recycling all unused posters, flyers and brochures that become obsolete at the end of promotions.
