TRA organizes its annual blood donation campaign

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has organized its annual blood donation campaign on Sunday, 23 September 2012 in Abu Dhabi.

The campaign is a reflection of the TRA's commitment and work in line with its social responsibility program that aims to provide services and assistance to society.

The campaign was organized at the TRA headquarters and took place from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Blood Bank under the supervision of Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC). SKMC provided all of the logistical requirements for the campaign including equipment, donation tools, and medical staff.

H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim TRA Director General commented on the campaign: "The TRA is known among its governmental counterparts for its vital role in social activities that contribute to serving society and assisting in medical blood donations in the UAE. We are always keen and committed to organizing blood donation campaigns either on an annual basis or intermittently throughout the year when the need for blood emerges. The blood collected in these campaigns is transferred to hospitals and health care centers that treat Thalassemia patients and others who are in need of blood transfusions."

He added: "The campaign went smoothly due to the efforts made by our partners, and their field and logistic support. The campaign witnessed large scale of participants from our employees reflecting the level of awareness enjoyed by donators about the patients' need for blood, and their motivation to be an active member of the UAEsociety."

A special bus was brought to the premises in Abu Dhabi in the parking lot; which was equipped with all of the required materials needed for successful blood donation of eligible participants. The work was organized by medical staff in a manner that guaranteed efficiency in performing medical tests of donators and completing the process in a timely manner.

Speaking on the campaign, a number of donators said that blood donation is a humanitarian duty for all of us as any person is vulnerable to catch a disease or meet with an accident that will require a blood transfer. The participants also noted that their donation today is similar to depositing funds in an account from which they can withdraw in the future if needed.

Concluding the campaign, the medical staff leading the process commended the participation of TRA's employees and the attention they extended to the campaign due the benefit for patients. Medical staff further noted that these employees may save someone's life as a result of their actions; this made the blood donators feel appreciated and satisfied while donating their blood.

A core operation of TRA, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) reflects the Authority's business processes in producing an overall positive impact for the UAE community. TRA's CSR programs cover a wide range of themes from the environment, to encouraging innovation in the ICT sector; supporting long life learning in ICT and sciences; availing the latest technologies to support individuals with special needs; and supporting arts in serving cultural and humanitarian values.
