MUSCAT / OMAN : As part of its ‘Gift to the Nation’ initiative announced last Novemeber to commemorate the Sultanate’s 40th National Day, Qalhat LNG has presented seven fully equipped ambulance vehicles to the Ministry of Health.
Dr Darwish bin Saif al Maharbi, Under-Secretary for Administrative and Financial Affairs at the Ministry of Health, presided over the presentation ceremony. The vehicles represent the latest batch of a fleet of 24 ambulance vehicles donated by Qalhat LNG to the Ambulance Unit of the Royal Oman Police. Seventeen vehicles were already handed over to the ROP earlier this year.
Commending Qalhat LNG on its gesture, Dr Al Maharbi said: “Our gratitude to Qalhat LNG for their pioneering sense of corporate social responsibility. The initiative is a clear testimony that the Company is fully aware of its corporate social responsibility within the community. These ambulance vehicles will no doubt enhance the health services in the wilayats that they will serve in. Our thanks and appreciation to the Qalhat LNG management and all the staff for an effective social programme that contributes to the sustainable development of communities and Omani individuals.”
Khalid bin Abdullah al Massan, Vice-President for Corporate Affairs, Qalhat LNG, said the gesture was in line with the company’s philosophy of supporting government and private institutions in the service of local communities. Issues of health and safety are given special attention by Qalhat LNG and fully integrated into its business activities, he noted.
“This great initiative with the Ministry of Health is a continuation of Qalhat LNG’s ‘Gift to the Nation’ pledge and is aimed at supporting efforts to reduce the impact of road accidents across the country. The company’s Board of Directors approved this generous contribution for a sustainable project to mark the 40th National Day and due to the fact that traffic safety was seen as one of the most significant are — as to which Qalhat LNG could contribute. We hope therefore that these ambulances will impact positively on the community for many years to come,” Al Massan added.
In line with its corporate social responsibility, Qalhat LNG has decided to allocate 1 per cent of its annual profits towards the development of local communities. The company’s social investment programme (SIP) is designed to identify and invest in projects, events and causes that are of relevance to the specific needs of the local communities and the entire nation.
