PepsiCo, one of the world's largest food and beverage companies, has a long tradition in community service and corporate social responsibility.
Throughout the Holy month of Ramadan, PepsiCo employees were the key drivers for a number of socially responsible activities carried out by the company. Passionate about making a difference, they committed time outside of working hours to organize several activities to give back to less fortunate members of the community. Partnerships were forged to leverage different organization's best practices and ensure the activities being driven would have the greatest possible impact on the people they benefit.
"PepsiCo employees have a long tradition of active engagement in the community. Giving back is an important part of PepsiCo corporate values and culture. Thanks to solid partnerships established with various organizations, we were able to make a difference in the community this Ramadan reaching out to more than 5000 people. Be it through financial or in-kind product donations, and more importantly through lending a hand to those who are less fortunate, our employees have stepped up as always to bring a smile to less advantaged members of our community," said Noha Hefny, external communications & CSR manager, PepsiCo Asia, Middle East & Africa.
One of the activities initiated and executed by PepsiCo employees included distributing Ramadan boxes filled with drinks, snacks and toiletries, to employees residing at Farnek Avireal Total Facilities Management employee accommodations in Dubai. Over two days, 60 PepsiCo employees and 55 Farnek employees packed, sealed and delivered 1,600 boxes to Farnek employees in Jabal Ali, Al Quoz, Ras El Kheimah and Abu Dhabi.
Suad Almarzouqi, a member of the PepsiCo Talent Acquisition team and the lead organizer of this initiative stated: "This employee driven initiative has been a truly fulfilling experience, and seeing the happy faces of people we helped upon the delivery of the boxes has made us realize how simple initiatives like these make a huge difference in the lives of those around us. The positivity and team spirit around the initiative was one of the best."
Buses that are carbon neutral were provided by Farnek Avireal to transport employees and boxes and cans distributed were recycled through EEG following distribution.
Moreover, 1200 hot food meals, including a vegetable biryani, fruit and dates, beverages, water and snacks were also distributed in partnership with MAB Facilities Management Company to their employees in Sharjah.
"I felt a tremendous sense of pride while organizing the Ramadan food distribution initiative on behalf of the finance team at PepsiCo. During Ramadan, these initiatives become even greater to show the local community that we as a company truly care and will lend a hand wherever and with whatever way that we can," said Laurel Al Dagher, Finance Administration Assistant at PepsiCo.
With an urge to do more and continue giving back to the community, PepsiCo associates were also the driving forces behind an Iftar for orphans in Dubai followed by an invitation to enjoy some of the entertainment outlets at Dubai Mall. In partnership with the Red Crescent, twelve PepsiCo associates spent an evening with the orphans to celebrate Ramadan.
Azza Hegazi, administrative assistant, engineering department at PepsiCo said: "Driving activities that bring joy to the less fortunate in our community has been an eye-opening experience. Amongst the many highlights of that night and whilst there was great fulfillment in seeing these children smile, it can be really tough work, but we pull together as a team and put in a lot of effort to give something back to those in need," she added.
PepsiCo also partnered with the UAE Red Crescent to distribute over 2,000 soft drinks and water to Iftar tents in areas such as Rashidiyah and Awir, as well as to collect donations to raise money for children's Eid gifts. Employees also raised funds that will ensure that 356 underprivileged children receive new clothes for Eid.
After Ramadan, PepsiCo employees will continue to live PepsiCo values and to drive a number of initiatives lined up to support their community.
