SOHAR Corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes to develop the local community will be the focus of the Bridges Establishment, a non-profit organisation set up recently as per an agreement signed among Sohar Aluminum, Vale Oman and ORPiC.

The first-of-its-kind organisation seeks to nurture social responsibility and achieve socio-economic development of local communities to ensure a better life for society in education, employment, environment and health, according to Dr Hamad Bin Hashim Al Dhahab, CEO of Bridges. It complements the role of the government in spreading development and progress, Al Dhahab said in a statement.

The Bridges Establishment has two unique aspects. One, it brings together three organisations that operate in three different fields and have different production lines and social responsibility systems.

Two, the selection of the projects to be implemented will be left to the local community through its representatives on the organisation’s board of directors, which comprises representatives of the local community and the government, besides CEOs of the companies.
