NBO sponsors competition in aid of Autismin Oman

In keeping with its commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, National Bank of Oman (NBO) recently sponsored the ‘You Play Sudoku for All ’ Competition 2012, held recently at the ‘ Oman Auditorium’, Al Bustan Palace Hotel.
The event was organised in aid of Autism in Oman, by Black and White Magazine for the third successive year. Sudoku is a game of numbers and the Autistic are known to be very good with numbers and figures and also gifted with special talents. The competition involved participation from all communities as it is a simple game that needs no language or technical expertise.
Celebrity Guests at the event included Autistic Savant George Widner and Bollywood Star Suniel Shetty.
NBO is proud to support Black and White in their efforts to create awareness about Autism in Oman. NBO’s Senior Executive Ajit Tandon represented the Bank at the event.
Autism affects how a person communicates and relates to other people. It also affects how the person makes sense of the world around. However, it is not a disorder – it is just a way of life. As per the Organisers, there are over 4000 autistic children in Oman. However, only 200 odd cases are registered so far. The Muscat Autism Centre, a private non-profit organisation is committed to working with the Autistic, in Oman.
Aisha Kharusi, NBO’s Head of CSR and Corporate Communications said: “NBO is indeed proud to have supported this very significant initiative which needs the urgent attention of all. Families with autistic children require the support of the community to help create awareness, and also improve their lives. It is very important we back events that raise awareness about the Autistic and their essentials”.
