Mövenpick Resort Hurghada, Egypt: Innovative approach awarded Green Globe Certification

Green Globe announces certification of Mövenpick Resort Hurghada, Egypt. Following Mövenpick Hotels & Resort's commitment to Green Globe certification for all properties worldwide, Mövenpick Resort Hurghada saw its very first certification audit in November 2012.

The property has demonstrated corporate responsibility and innovation in the fields of operational efficiency on multiple levels.The success of MövenpickHotels & Resorts sustainability efforts lies in its integration into their business strategy.

"Mövenpick Resort Hurghada joined the Mövenpick Hotels & Resort family not so long ago - in March 2012," said Alain Chatel, General Manager at the Mövenpick Resort Hurghada. 

"Achieving Green Globe certification is a great milestone for this property, strengthening our efforts to be fully in line with the Mövenpick standard. As the new general manager of the hotel I am very happy to see that the dedication of our entire team to achieve the prestigious certification has paid off. We will continuously thrive to do our best to preserve and contribute to the future for generations to come."

A long term sustainability management system is in place at the Mövenpick Resort Hurghada, energy and water consumption is strictly monitored. In addition, various projects on alternative green energy sources and water preservation are in progress. A special Green Team was established to identify, analyze and implement environmental goals set by the hotel. Awareness is promoted among suppliers and partners, asking to commit to sustainable business practices. The property actively supports the community and charities, such as El Khabar El Tayeb, a local organization caring for children and young adults with special needs. 

Green Globe Certification's CEO, Guido Bauer, commented, "We are extremely pleased to award certification to the Mövenpick Resort Hurghada in Egypt. Within a very short period of time, this resort took a leading role promoting sustainable tourism in Egypt. The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism has set an integrated 'Tourism Sustainable Development Plan' that will continue with improvements to the tourism sector up to 2020. Mövenpick Hotels and Resorts is one of the largest hotel groups to commit to Green Globe Certification for all properties worldwide."

The audit for the Mövenpick Resort Hurghada was conducted by Farnek Avireal, lead sustainability consultancy in the MENA region.
