Making businesses aware of social responsibility

Prince Nawaf bin Faisal, head of the Youth Welfare Presidency, will open on April 24 the first forum for social responsibility of the business sector toward young men and women in the Kingdom.

Organized by the presidency in association with the Saudi Law Center for Training, the forum will be held at King Fahd Coastal City in Jeddah.

As many as 700 prominent personalities as well as social responsibility experts from international companies and clubs will take part in the forum to exchange their expertise and ideas in the field.

Majed Garoob, chairman of the organizing committee, said the presidency wants to deepen social responsibility values and concepts in Saudi society.

“Social responsibility has become a culture and civilization as well as the basis for building societies,” Garoob said, adding the forum would be attended by experts from charitable organizations.

He said the forum has five main objectives — spreading a culture of volunteerism; investing human energy for the benefit of society; capacity building for youths; encourage youth to participate in social development programs; and establishing effective partnerships with voluntary organizations.

Meanwhile, Obaid Al-Abdali of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals will present a talk show on “Marketing and Social Responsibility” through Radio Riyadh. The program, to be aired at 3 p.m. Tuesday, aims at encouraging businessmen and women and companies to support social development programs with the support of government agencies.
