HSBC Kuwait shares over 5,000 Iftar meals with less fortunate

HSBC Kuwait this Ramadan ensured that families in need and the less fortunate were able to share in the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan. Staff volunteers signed up for the activity and served 315 Iftar meals daily.

The activity commenced at the start of Ramadan and will continue until the end of the 30 day fasting period.

"Our staff volunteers have done a tremendous job on a daily basis. It is an honour to take part in activities of this nature and to be able to make a tangible difference to the lives of those in need," said Simon Vaughan Johnson, CEO of HSBC Bank Middle East in Kuwait.

"HSBC worldwide participates in a number of community activities and being connected to the communities in which we live and work is integral to the Group's core values." he added.

Iftar meal distribution was initiated five years ago and since then staff volunteers in HSBC Kuwait have participated generously in the activity.

HSBC in the community

For HSBC, sustainability is core to our every day business.

It allows us to support individuals and organisations in achieving their goals by contributing to socio-economic development and environmental protection.

Investing in the community, particularly through education, is an important element of HSBC's sustainability strategy and we place great emphasis on employee volunteering.

In 2010, HSBC committed nearly $108m to community investment and our employees volunteered over 320,000 work hours.
