Members of Hilton Doha reinforced its commitment to community with a strong turn-out at the 2013 Terry Fox Marathon of Hope (Terry Fox Run), held annually to raise funds for cancer research.

The hotel supported the event with a team of 34 participants, led by General Manager Andreas Searty. "We firmly believe that as a part of the local community, we need to support initiatives that spread awareness about issues as significant and topical as cancer research. With our global brand strength and our reputation within the local community, we are also in a position to lead by example and I hope that through our strong showing this year we have spurred more people within the Hilton Doha family, and outside, to support this worthy cause next year," stated Andreas Searty, general manager, Hilton Doha.

The Terry Fox Run is an annual marathon held to help raise funds for cancer research, with the ultimate aim of finding a cure for the condition. Founded in 1981 by Isadore Sharp in commemoration of cancer activist and humanitarian Terry Fox, the event is non-competitive and has raised millions of dollars by encouraging participants to channel the spirit of the cross-Canada run that Terry Fox undertook after being diagnosed with bone cancer.

The 2013 Terry Fox run coincided with Qatar National Sports Day and the hotel participated in a number of events and activities, including an inter-hotel hotel match. The blue energy team at Hilton Doha, which champions the company's Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, were also on-site to cheer the hotel's team on.

"For Hilton Doha, it was a day that we will all look back on with pride - we supported a cause that resonated with all of us and we were passionate about. It also gave us the opportunity to work together as a team, outside of our working hours, and really engage with each other and the local community on a deeper level," said Searty.

Located on the upscale Corniche area of the city, Hilton Doha marked the entry of Hilton Worldwide in Qatar. The 309-room hotel is also home to the first eforea: spa at Hilton in the Middle East and the first Trader Vic's in Qatar.
