Green Programme for Schools: A joint CSR initiative to raise eco consciousness among the youth

The Green Programme for Schools (GPS) is the environmental initiative of Msheireb Properties in association with Qatar Today magazine. This unique programme aims to Reach, Inspire and Reward students and schools in Qatar by meaningfully engaging and inculcating in them the importance of building a green equity. Since its launch on June 5, 2011, the GPS has been received phenomenally well by schools in Qatar with over 40 of them registering for the programme.

GPS has also been receiving great support from its partners which include the Supreme Education Council (SEC) who have been providing assistance in identifying the most appropriate and potential local and international schools. These are schools that have the potential to not only be part of the programme but also to enhance it, and SEC is facilitating registrations with them. Meanwhile, iloveqatar.net (ILQ) being the foremost digital media experts in the country, is providing the ideal platform to reach out to the wider community as media partners through daily tweets, blogs and posts on various social media platforms. In addition, GPS has invited Mission 20, a youth-centric body, as one of its activation partners in charge of strategically placing pledge boards, suggestion boxes and creative stickers inside the campuses to constantly remind and encourage students to utilize resources carefully. Consulting partners are Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC) will be lending its expertise to develop the assessment criteria for monitoring the participating schools through this programme. The school which reduces water and electricity consumption the most would be awarded the ‘Eco School of the year’.
