Dr P Mohamed Ali, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of Galfar Engineering and Contracting SAOG shared his valuable experience of more than 40 years in Oman with young entrepreneurs in the Sultanate. The interaction with young, enterprising Omanis was held under the auspices of the Entrepreneurs Organization (Oman Chapter), a US-based organisation with over 8,000 members worldwide. The Oman Chapter, which currently has 23 members on its rolls, continues to expand. Young entrepreneurs from prominent business houses in Oman were given valuable insights into the development of the Sultanate during the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos.
In his lecture delivered at the Ghala head office of Galfar, Dr Mohamed Ali highlighted the role of the generation that has contributed to the remarkable development of the nation. He emphasised the need for youngsters to march forward with pride in building on the efforts already made. Dr Mohamed Ali deliberated on the role of entrepreneurs in capitalising on opportunities from emerging scenarios both regionally and internationally. He expressed the view that today’s young entrepreneurs must develop an appetite to accept risks and challenges, while developing the trust and confidence of all the stakeholders by delivering on promises.
Furthermore, by focusing more on business than profits can ensure long lasting success, he noted. Galfar’s Vice-President and Managing Director also emphasised the need for entrepreneurs to be proactive and vigilant about the needs of the community they live in. Also important is a willingness to give back to the community through various initiatives notably through Corporate Social Responsibility programmes, and so on. The young entrepreneurs were also advised to acquire the knowhow for themselves rather than be ever dependent on others and establish a sense of accountability in their organisation through proper management tools. He stressed, above all, the need for dedication and steadfastness towards one’s purpose, country and community.
