Empower to participate in Dubai Earth Hour celebrations

Empower, the largest district cooling services provider in the MENA region, will be participating in the Dubai Earth Hour celebrations, organized by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and DEWA, in association with Emirates Wildlife Society (EWS) and Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF).

Ahmed Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, said: "Empower is governed by the directive of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai to protect the environment. Empower supports district cooling systems that are regarded the best environment friendly cooling solutions."

"The Earth Hour celebrations in Dubai demonstrate the community's commitment to protect the environment and to enhance sustainability and green economy. The rationalization of water and electricity consumption is a personal responsibility of everyone, before it becomes a social responsibility," added Bin Shafar.

Empower has successfully increased the usage of district cooling systems in residential buildings, commercial and hotels. These systems are ideal in saving operational and maintenance costs and protecting environmental resources.

Bin Shafar added: "The annual percentage of district cooling energy saving for every residential unit is between 40% and 50%, compared to the traditional cooling systems. This shows the importance of district cooling systems in reaching a green community."

Empower is a leader among district cooling companies in the Middle East. Its strategy is based on protecting the environment by increasing the usage of district cooling systems.

The Earth Hour 2012 celebrations come under the theme of ""I Will If You Will...The world challenge for the earth", that calls all community members, institutions and government authorities to commit for earth protection by following acts that will have a positive reflection on the environment.

Earth Hour is a worldwide event organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and is held on the last Saturday of March annually, encouraging households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour to raise awareness about the need to take action on climate change.

Earth Hour was conceived by WWF and The Sydney Morning Herald in 2007, when 2.2 million residents of Sydney participated by turning off all non-essential lights. Following Sydney's lead, many other cities around the world adopted the event in 2008. Earth Hour 2012 will take place on March 31, 2012 from 8:30p.m. to 9:30p.m., at participant's local time.
