Dubai Municipality to prepare 'Ambassadors of Sustainability' in educational institutions for green activities

In a bid to prepare young dedicated volunteer force to hold green initiatives in educational institutions across Dubai, civic body has come up with yet another innovative idea known as 'Ambassadors of Sustainability'.

It was announced by Husain Gulam, head of administrative support section at DM waste management department.

"Ambassadors of Sustainability is a unique program Dubai Municipality has been implementing collaborated with educational institutions aiming to train students who are interested to work for sustainable environment and waste management activities across the emirate," he said.

"We train them on how to carry out lectures, workshops on various environmental topics as well as give them exclusive workshops on how to do sustainable waste management by reuse and recycle methods," he explained.

According to him Dubai Municipality has separate training packages for secondary and higher secondary school students as well as for college students.

Now started, the trainings will continue through several phases and will finish by August adding another batch to Ambassadors of Sustainability.

What they need is a dedicated mind to work for an eco-friendly society and an active membership in school environment club, he added.

Abdulla AbdulQader Al Ghaffari, Head of Customer Service Unit at DM Waste Management Department, said, "After systematic trainings they will be qualified as Ambassador of Sustainability and will be deployed to conduct lectures, workshops and to carry out field visits to targeted institutions."

Hamda Al-Murr who heads sustainable waste management team at Dubai Municipality who is also an expert in delivering sustainable waste management workshops said civic body is now awarding qualified students with Ambassador of Sustainability certificates.

"We train them how to speak and debate on various environment matters. Those who proved ability in art works will be given training on how to convert waste items to useful objects," she explained.

It is learnt that Dubai Municipality has trained hundreds of students so far and the Ambassador of Sustainability pool has 120 students as qualified students.
