Dubai Chamber sponsors the Ecoprenuer Award

As part of its on-going commitment to raise awareness and encourage Corporate Social Responsibility, Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry is sponsoring the Dubai Chamber Ecopreneur Award in association with Dubai Eye 103.8 radio.

This competition will promote and reward green companies that are helping the UAE develop more sustainably.

The interactive competition is open to all companies with green products/services or outstanding sustainable projects that help reduce pollution and conserve resources in the UAE. Companies are currently being nominated by radio listeners on the Dubai Eye 103.8 website and have until this Thursday the 20th of September to complete the application questions. The shortlisted nominees will then be announced on-air and interviewed over the coming weeks. At the same time, listeners will be encouraged to vote online for their favourite. The winning business will be announced on the 23rd of October and receive a significant prize.

Rami Halawani, Director, Marketing and Corporate Communication, Dubai Chamber, said: "Dubai Chamber has a long legacy of walking the talk and talking the walk when it comes to the environment. Through this new Ecoprenuer Award we will be promoting companies that have demonstrated environmental leadership while encouraging others to improve their environmental performance too."

Dubai Chamber began greening of its head office since 1998 and thus reduced water consumption by 77% and energy consumption by 47% in the following decade saving Dhs7.1m for the organisation. In 2004, the Chamber created its Centre for Responsible Business which encourages its members to go green through publications, conferences and sustainability task groups.

In 2005, Dubai Chamber started the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Business Award which recognises the excellence of businesses in different areas including the environment and in 2009, its head office became 1st LEED certified existing green building in the Arab world. Since then the Chamber has renovated its offices to the highest global eco standards and recently achieved ISO14001 certification for its environmental management system.
