du hosts educational workshop to celebrate UAE National Environment Day

In-line with du’s Corporate Social Responsibility efforts, the telecommunications company observed UAE National Environment Day by hosting a workshop for its employees. Entitled ‘Save Energy & Save Money’, it educated employees on the importance of conserving energy by reducing wasteful consumption at home and in the office.

Employees learnt exactly how much energy is wasted on a daily basis, and were given tips to show them how easy it is to conserve resources for the benefit of the planet – and for smaller electricity and water bills at the end of the month!

“It is so easy to save energy, once you know how to do it. We hope that the advice we’ve passed on to our colleagues today will help them to develop environmentally-friendly habits that they will share with their friends, leading to a lower energy consumption across the board,” said Hala Badri, Executive Vice President, Brand and Communications, du. “As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility, we educate our colleagues and the community on the benefits of saving energy and conserving resources in general, for the benefit of the UAE and the future generations who will enjoy our planet. ”

To help them on their way to becoming more environmentally friendly at home, all attending employees were presented with an energy saving bulbs that they can use at home.

This is the second consecutive year that du has marked UAE National Environment Day (4 February). Several initiatives are active throughout the year to encourage employees to becoming more environmentally conscious, including recycling bins in offices; encouraging the use of mugs rather than disposable cups at drinks machines; printer cartridge recycling (through the HP Planet Partners programme) and more. As a company, du has adopted e-billing and e-newsletter systems to cut back on paper use; turns off all lights within the building after working hours to conserve energy; uses a low engine capacity fleet; has energy-saving systems installed in its base stations and operates a fully solar-powered facility on Sir Bu Nair Island. du also participates in major local and international environmental events, such as the UN’s World Environment Day and Clean Up UAE.
