DP World supports patients at Dubai's Rashid Hospital

Long-term patients at Dubai's Rashid Hospital who lack income, family support, or the means to return to their home countries were the focus of the seventh of DP World's staff-driven community activities over the summer.

Staff and senior management officials visited the hospital recently to present the patients with care packs made up of everyday essentials donated by DP World staff. 

DP World Group Chief Executive Officer Mohammed Sharaf together with Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, DP World,UAE Region, Suhail Al Banna, Senior Vice President - Government Relations, and Abdulla Bin Damithan, Director - Account Management, DP World,UAE Region, were welcomed by Dr Shawqi Khoori, Rashid Hospital Chief Executive Officer, Dr Younis Kazim, Director of Medical Affairs and Yousif Mohammad, Director of Finance & Administrative affairs.

Dr Shawqi Khoori, Rashid Hospital Chief Executive Officer, said, "I would like to thank DP World for distributing essential items to the less fortunate patients at our hospital. Patients were very glad to meet with DP World representatives and much appreciated this humanitarian gesture."

Mohammed Sharaf, Group Chief Executive Officer, DP World, said, "One of our core values is responsibility to the community and we are pleased to be able to help the patients at Rashid Hospital in this way. We are proud too of how our staff have embraced the project, along with the six other initiatives undertaken in the UAE over the summer that particularly support the vulnerable in our society." 

Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, DP World, UAE Region, said, "This campaign was initiated by our staff who enthusiastically welcomed the idea and worked hard to make it a success. We are proud that our people so actively embrace the company's commitment to the community; we look forward to continue supporting patients at Rashid Hospital in the future."

The other six community activities held between June and September 2012, include raising donations to help orphans and needy children and families through the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, the Beit Al Khair Society, the Dubai Autism Center and the Palestine Children's Relief Fund. 

DP World also organised a special camp at Jebel Ali and Al Hamriya ports where 150 employees donated blood to support people suffering from the genetic blood disorder Thalassemia. 

The summer also saw DP World launch a campaign to collect books that will be sold during the "Pink Book Fair" with the proceeds donated to the breast cancer awareness campaign "Safe and Sound".
