Corporate social responsibility at IHG cluster hotels

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is at the core of what InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) cluster hotels in Jordan do. That's why when devising strategies, the IHG management team makes sure that CSR activities are a big part of those strategies.

From blood donations, clothes donations to partnerships with important entities and initiatives, every IHG hotel in Jordan is committed to doing its part towards its local community and its members.

Starting with InterContinental Aqaba Resort, the resort and its team have done many clothes and blood donations for the benefit of the Aqaba residents. Also, InterContinental Aqaba Resort has received both the Green Key and the Blue Flag which are certificates related to conserving and protecting the environment. The resort is also passionate about celebrating Mother's Day on a yearly basis through hosting lunch with some of the mothers whom Aqaba charities support and take care of. Additionally, the resort's team is keen on environmental activities as well, such as cleaning up the beach of the Gulf of Aqaba.

Crowne Plaza Amman undertakes many initiatives as well, including their partnerships with important and well-known entities. The hotel took part in the Marka Vocational Training Centre, whereby the chefs of Crowne Plaza Amman reviewed the different curricula related to culinary, as well as training both the trainers and the trainees at the centre in bakery, pastry, and Arabic food.

Moreover, Crowne Plaza Amman partnered with the Youth Career Initiative (YCI) for an internship program within the hotel for six interns who were distributed in different departments.

On an internal level, Crowne Plaza Amman also takes good care of its colleagues through hosting different health awareness lectures, events, annual parties and recognized them on a regular basis through certificates, awards and promotions.

On an environmental level, Crowne Plaza Amman has received the Green Key for its environmental initiatives.

Finally, Crowne Plaza Amman is an avid supporter of the well-known initiative Family Kitchen, whereby untouched leftover food is collected from the hotel and distributed to underprivileged families.

Holiday Inn Resort Dead Sea is quite active too. The resort hosts orphanages and charities for a full day filled with fun and activities.

Also, Holiday Inn Resort Dead Sea launched the Holiday Inn Resort Academy with the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD), to create and provide job opportunities that can transform lives of the youth; at the Holiday Inn Resort Academy, the trainees from the local community are exposed to both theoretical and practical methods of education.

Crowne Plaza Jordan Dead Sea Resort & Spa is still a new property; however, it is keen on supporting the community, and this was evident when the resort hosted the Shafa Badran Orphanage for a fun-filled day at the resort. And Crowne Plaza Jordan Dead Sea Resort & Spa is planning on implementing and executing more CSR activities and initiatives in the near future.

Collectively, all IHG cluster hotels in Jordan participate annually in Earth Hour and World Environment Day. Also, all of those hotels and resorts are part of the IHG Green Engage program, which focuses on conserving energy and taking up action that help preserve the environment.

"We know very well that we do not exist on our own, and that we owe our community and its members a lot," says Mr. Oussama Massoud, Regional General Manager of IHG Jordan & Palestine. "That's why CSR activities are an integral part of our annual strategies. We do not execute our various activities on a whim, and we definitely do not think of those activities as a burden that we can't wait to get off our shoulders; instead, we are pleased that we have such opportunities to interact with our community on a more humanitarian level, as well as give back to them as a way of showing our continuous support."
