Bank Muscat SAOG : BankMuscat donates wheelchairs to physically challenged citizens

BankMuscat, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, donated 30 wheelchairs to physically challenged citizens. AbdulRazak Ali Issa, Chief Executive, presided at the ceremony held at the Bank's head office.

The beneficiaries were referred by the Bank staff as part of a new CSR initiative launched by the Bank to instill a voluntary work culture in the community.
AbdulRazak Ali Issa said: "The BankMuscat CSR initiative is an earnest attempt to respond to reality. As the leading bank in the Sultanate, BankMuscat is at the forefront to contribute to society and thereby set a fine example for the banking sector to develop social work as corporate culture. The CSR initiative is a commitment to involve everybody in the Bank in social activities. The Bank aims to bring social responsibility in the blood of everyone and as the culture of the organisation. The initiative reflects the Bank's commitment to set benchmark standards in social responsibility."
AbdulRazak Ali Issa added: "The gesture benefiting citizens with special needs is aimed at helping them overcome challenges and integrate themselves with the mainstream society. BankMuscat is happy to support and help the physically challenged people to lead normal lives and thereby contribute to society. The Bank is very sensitive to the needs of people with special needs and is keen on enriching their lives. BankMuscat is committed to be a true partner in supporting people with special needs."
Said Khamis al Ma'awali from the wilayat of Wadi al Maawil, who received a wheelchair on behalf of his son, thanked the Bank for the humanitarian gesture. "The new wheelchair will be a great help for my son to go to school and do other activities. The support by the Bank is benefiting many disadvantaged people to lead normal lives," Al Ma'awali said.
Hamad Said al Siyabi from Barka received a wheelchair on behalf of his 15-year-old daughter. "We are thankful to BankMuscat for reaching out to marginalised sections in society and helping them to integrate with the mainstream society," Al Siyabi said.
Ushering in a new era of social commitment, early this year BankMuscat launched an innovative corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative involving the 3000-strong employees. The new CSR strategy which stems from the Royal directive of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos to accord priority for social responsibility is the first of its kind in Oman and the region to engage all staff in making a big difference in giving back to society.
As part of the CSR strategy, all employees will commit to a minimum of five hours of voluntary social work in a year as well as monetary contributions. Each staff member will be assigned specific key performance indicator (KPI) involving social work in their annual performance appraisal.
The Corporate Social Responsibility of BankMuscat is a commitment to contribute towards sustainable development by working closely with local communities with the aim of improving living standards in a manner that serves the national economy and development process at the same time. Equal consideration is accorded to environmental, social and economic issues when pursuing efforts aimed at achieving development and improving living standards.
