BAE Systems honors Saudi engineering students

In an effort to recognize the contributions of Saudi engineering students and to encourage them to contribute to the development of the nation, BAE Systems Saudi Arabia honored 12 major model projects completed by engineering students of King Saud University (KSU) in Riyadh on Sunday.

These students were presented with awards and commendation certificates at a special ceremony organized by BAE Systems in cooperation with KSU's faculty of engineering.

The awards were presented by Abdullah Alkanhal, vice president of engineering at KSU and chairman of the executive council for cooperation with the universities and research centers, and Dr. Khalid Al-Humaizy, KSU's dean of faculty of engineering. They gave away awards and certificates to the top 12 students from among 70 projects submitted by the students. A total of 32 engineering students, whose contributions were also recognized, participated in the contest.

Speaking on this occasion, Al-Humaizy praised the close cooperation with BAE Systems Saudi Arabia, which has led to the signing of an agreement that will provide a new model of strategic partnership between BAE Systems and KSU involving undergraduate scholarship programs.

“Through this partnership students and industry can work closely together to ensure young Saudi engineers are prepared and able to realize their full potential after graduation with a major Saudi engineering company," he added.

Al-Humaizy also expressed his appreciation for BAE Systems Saudi Arabia for honoring the outstanding students of KSU's College of Engineering. Riyadh-based KSU has a cumulative enrolment of about 40,000 boys and girls. Established in 1957, the university has emerged as one of the best 300 universities in the world, according to the ARWU university ranking in 2011. Webometrics ranked KSU as the 214th best university in the world, and it is the best among Arab universities.
