Alba sends an environmental message through UOB donation

Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba) presented the second instalment of its BD 150,000 (US$ 397,877) donation – payable over three years – that will go towards the purchase and installation of eco-friendly LED lights at the University of Bahrain (UOB) campus in Sakhir.

A meeting was held recently to mark this occasion during which the Chairman of Alba’s Board of Directors, Mahmood Hashim Al Kooheji presented the cheque for BD 50,000 (US$ 132,655) to the UOB President, Dr. Ebrahim Mohammed Janahi.

Also present were UOB’s Vice-President for Planning & Development and Professor of Applied Physics, Prof. Dr. Waheeb Essa Al Nasser, Alba’s Investor & Public Relations Manager, Eline Hilal and other officials.

Commenting on Alba’s donation to UOB, the Chairman of Alba’s Board of Directors, Mahmood Hashim Al Kooheji said:

“There has already been a positive impact of the LED lights across the campus not only because of their eco-friendly properties but also due to their efficiency in terms of power consumption. As a company that has invested greatly in developing production processes that protect the environment without upsetting the bottom line, it is a matter of pride for Alba to share these values with organisations like UOB. Alba consistent support to UOB is also recognition of the crucial role that it plays in achieving the kingdom’s Bahrainisation goals.”

It is estimated that the 40,000 LED lights at the UOB campus are expected to generate overall savings of BD 32,000 (US$ 84,880) over 11 years of the lights’ estimated life. Currently, UOB has more than 100,000 lights and the donation of these eco-friendly LED lights will enable UOB to contribute towards protecting Bahrain’s environment.
