Al Ahli Holding Group concludes the 'CSR in Action' initiative in Lebanon

The 'CSR in Action' initiative which was organized by Al Ahli Holding Group's Corporate Social Responsibility division in partnership with Ecole Supérieure des Affaires (ESA), gathering Corporate Social Responsibility practitioners from all over Lebanon, concluded yesterday the 10-days training program.

The CSR in Action is an initiative set to develop and enhance the practice and awareness of CSR activities among practitioners in Lebanon and simultaneously augment student conceptual understanding. Through capacity building mechanisms, the project aims at engaging the Private Sector, Academia, and Government entities in formulating strategies that are more responsive to community needs.

The opening ceremony took place at the Ecole Supérieure des Affaires and was attended by His Excellency Jan Top Christensen the Ambassador of Denmark to Lebanon, Ms. Lina Hourani the Director of CSR Al Ahli Holding Group and the Dean and Director General of Ecole Supérieure des Affaires Mr. Stéphane Attali, in addition to partners, participants, academics, stakeholders, and a number of government and private sector representatives.

The "CSR in Action" initiative was born in UAE as a partnership between Al Ahli Holding Group and The Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), a program of the U.S. Department of State, has the mission to create vibrant partnerships between the United States and the citizens of the Middle East and North Africa to empower them to build more pluralistic, participatory, and prosperous societies throughout the region.

And following the successful program launch in UAE, CSR in Action Lebanon followed the same pattern bringing together 25 Lebanese participants from various private sector, government organizations and university students who underwent an intense 10-day workshop on the fundamentals of corporate social responsibility.

They also received a special training related to the underlying principles of CSR, and then were divided into teams and given the task of designing and implementing five micro CSR projects.

Once the training was completed, the formed teams designed and presented CSR projects to a judging panel that will choose a winning team to be awarded in a closing ceremony.

The distinguished judging committee consisted of four judges from MEPI/YCC, Fransabank, The Danish Embassy and the programs main partner, ESA. The seven-formed teams presented different CSR projects covering various fields such as: Women empowerment, Environment, Health, Social, financial, women employment and Education.

It is worth noting that Al Ahli Holding Group also works on a number of initiatives via its own Corporate Social Responsibility division focusing on the development, support and empowerment of Arab youth and on the dissemination of thought leadership in the region through different internship and fellowship programs.
