ADGAS employees to take part in Earth Hour

The employees of Abu Dhabi Gas Liquefaction Company (ADGAS) decided to meet again the environmental challenge and further reduce their personal and corporate environmental footprint by proactively embracing the Earth Hour initiative for the second consecutive year.

Officially coordinated by Abu Dhabi Municipality, Abu Dhabi's activities in this global event aim at encouraging individuals and organizations alike to take part in the efforts to reduce energy consumption by switching off all lights and energy-consuming machines between 8:30 and 9:30 PM on March 31, 2012.

The event is organized by the Emirates Wildlife Society in cooperation with the World Wide Fund for Nature "EWS-WWF."

Commenting on ADGAS participation in the event, Mr. Fahim Kazim, ADGAS CEO, said, "ADGAS is not new to the environmental concerns, as it was initially established as an environmental venture, to stop the flaring of associated gas into the atmosphere. Since then, the environment has always been an integral part of our strategy and policies."

"We were one of the UAE's earliest organizations to embrace this global initiative. In fact, we have always been working on reducing our environmental footprint both on Das Island and in Abu Dhabi. This campaign is just an added reminder of our responsibilities towards the planet and the coming generations," concluded Mr. Kazim.

ADGAS has prepared for this event, in which organizations and individual pledge to switch off all energy consuming devices for one hour at least on the last Saturday of March every year. This year, it will be on the 31st of March.

A stand at ADGAS Headquarters' lobby was installed and equipped with laptops where employees can sign up their pledge not only to observe that specific hour but also to meet the challenge of going beyond it.

Circulars, banners and other tools of spreading awareness have been used a couple of weeks before the Earth Hour date.

"We are glad to join hands with the EWS and the Environmental Agency - Abu Dhabi, and with the ever growing movement of world NGOs, organizations and private citizens who celebrate this event annually in an effort to spread awareness on the grave dangers threatening our planet due to excessive and inconsiderate consumption of energy," said Mr. Salem Al Ameri, Chairman of ADGAS Sustainability Committee.

"We have previously organized our own environmental initiatives, some of which (like the Paperless Day campaign) have been met with national and global applaud," Mr. Al Ameri added.

During the Earth Hour that is also embraced by the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi and observed by many other national agencies, (8:30-9:30 PM on Saturday, March 31, 2012), all lights and energy consuming devices will be switched off in the Company premises and in the private homes of ADGAS employees who have accepted the challenge of reducing their energy consumption. The real challenge is not to limit this attitude to that specific hour but rather to make it a habit and a lifestyle, and ADGAS employees seem to take up the glove and accept the challenge.
