ABB's local company in Oman has been selected as one of the top CSR Practitioners in the Middle East and Northern Africa (MENA) region in the Arabia CSR Network Awards 2012.

Judges were impressed with ABB's various CSR initiatives exercised in Oman during 2012 and rated the awards entry as 'outstanding,' in the 'New Comer Award' category. The awards jury received 58 entries from organizations in 11 countries in the GCC, Levant and North Africa region.

ABB is committed to serving the public through partnerships and programs that contribute to economic and social wellbeing of the society in which it does business. This is a remarkable achievement for an emerging and developing entity of ABB in Oman.

Giving back to the community 

The Omanization scheme is a vital program where ABB is committed to foster the sustainable economic and social growth of Oman in educating and providing employment opportunities for Omani nationals. ABB attends educational fairs in universities and engineering colleges to attract potential candidates for a promising career and provides on the job training for those employed. The company is committed to support the long term development of the local community in a sustainable way. 

Over the year ABB employees participated in activities demonstrating community wellbeing such as the walkathon for diabetes awareness, road safety awareness and a poster competition for the anti-smoking campaign at the Vale Project Site in Sohar. Employees visited Sohar Hospital in Oman to give away gifts to patients and dedicated medical staff. 

The CSR Network was launched in 2004 with the aim of working closely with the corporate sector in the promotion of sustainable development in the UAE. The network brings into focus the local and regional efforts that are undertaken at the corporate level to further CSR in the Middle East. As the only multi-stakeholder forum in the region, the CSR Network has been dedicated to the promotion of CSR, sharing best practices, exchanging ideas and forging lasting partnerships across different sectors.
