Although a number of studies have shownthat corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities oftenlead to greater organisational performance in westerndeveloped economies, researchers are yet to examine thestrategic value of CSR in emerging economies. Usingsurvey data from 280 firms operating in Dubai, this studyexamines the link between CSR activities and organisational performance. The results show that CSR has apositive relationship with all three measures of organisational performance: financial performance, employeecommitment, and corporate reputation. These resultsreinforce the accumulating body of empirical support forthe positive impact of CSR on performance and challenge the dominant assumption that, given the weakinstitutional framework in emerging economies, CSRactivities drain resources and compromise firms’ competitiveness.
