Commercial Bank of Kuwait

 

Social responsibility has been among Commercial Bank of Kuwait's priorities since its establishment in June 19, 1960. From this standpoint, Commercial Bank of Kuwait followed a balanced strategy by devoting its efforts and resources to serve the society, participate in its development, provide employment opportunities and training, and protect the environment in order to preserve Kuwait's natural resources.

This is clearly demonstrated through the Bank's generous donations to the social care centers and its contribution to social activities, awareness campaigns, educational and cultural events and sports activities. In addition to that, CBK has a prominent participation and presence in conferences and seminars organized in Kuwait and abroad, in which the Bank usually presents research papers on the issues and topics discussed in the conference. This booklet includes a sneak preview about the activities supported by the Bank in assurance to its responsibility towards the society.

 

Contribution to Various Campaigns

Doubtless that increasing people's awareness will be positively reflected on the progress of the society. CBK as an integral part of the society, ensures its participation in social awareness campaigns in a way that will contribute to the success of these awareness programs and campaigns organized by the government or the non-profit making organizations.

CBK participated in the Ministry of Interior's campaign "To Fight Drug Addiction". In addition, CBK also espoused the census conducted by the Ministry of Planning.

The Bank's contribution and participation in the campaign that it arranged for its staff to donate blood along with its participation in the Civil Defense's awareness campaign were another landmark in the Bank's already rich history of social interaction.

Commercial Bank of Kuwait also sponsored the activities of the "Kuwait Society for Smoking and Cancer Prevention" in continuance of its leading role in serving its country and its alertness on participating in social development with all its abilities especially in exposing the size of the danger of smoking and its effect on Kuwaiti youth. As such the Bank prints awareness booklets and distributed them to various hospitals in addition to bearing the expenses of the Omra trip organized by the society for forty patients suffering from cancer owing to smoking in order to ease their sufferings and lift their morale to overcome this serious illness. It also had an active part in health awareness and prevention of heart diseases by offering a financial donation to "Kuwait Heart Foundation."

 

Unlimited Social Support

Commercial Bank of Kuwait continues its humanitarian and social service initiatives to ensure that its role is not limited to being an economic institution, but it further exceeds this as the Bank participates in supporting various Kuwaiti associations and contributes in helping the needy.

In the boundaries of these humanitarian services, the Bank offers donations and financial contributions to various non-profit making social associations. One of the most important initiatives is the charity campaign organized by CBK during the holy month of Ramadan "Use and Donate" to encourage the use of credit cards where the Bank decided to donate part of its net profit to various charities. The beneficiaries were The Organization for "Down Syndrome" with special needs and "Center for Child Evaluation and Teaching" and "The Vocational Rehabilitation Center."

The Bank's support for the disabled segment was not restricted to Ramadan only but the Bank continued to support the Down Syndrome Center through the sponsorship of lectures where the Bank offered donation for acquiring the "Teaching Reading to Children with down syndrome"Guide for Parents and Teachers"; given that this book is considered one of the important references in teaching reading and writing basics for the Down children.

CBK participated in many social and humanitarian services across the borders. The Bank offered donations to the families of September 11th victims in USA. Moreover, it offered financial donations to the victims' of Tsunami earthquake in south Asia.

In this context, Commercial Bank of Kuwait sponsors "The Vocational Rehabilitation Center for the Handicapped", fulfilling thereby its blessed social duty. Moreover, Commercial Bank of Kuwait ensures its participation in activities and events organized by social services committees.

Within its leading overall social mission to give more attention to the various social sectors, Commercial Bank of Kuwait offered a financial donation to "The 29th Week of the Deaf" to positively support the deaf and the disabled in the Kuwaiti society.

Because of the leading and noble role adopted by "The Vocational Rehabilitation Center for the Handicapped", the center was chosen by the Bank to be the beneficiary of the charity campaign organized by the Bank during the Holy month of Ramadan 2005.

 

Science, Scientific Research, Training & Employment

CBK's policy aims to support the scientific research activities, training, employment, and other educational activities which benefit the country.

CBK also pays great attention to the educational services development at various schools and nurseries. Based on this, the Bank has offered financial support in order to provide the necessary requirements for the schools. The Bank provides all the support that will contribute to the success of school festivals and educational programs organized by the public schools. The Bank is also encouraging the outstanding students by offering them financial support.

The Bank's participation extended to include different school activities that serve the students in their educational progression where it had a clear landmark in contributing to the success of events held at schools such as cultural days, carnivals and spring festivals.

From this standpoint, the Bank also supported the Ministry of Education's various activities such as sports and social education. Being one of the leading economic institutions, CBK participates generously in supporting "Educational Support" organized by the national association for educational support.

CBK was always driven by a futuristic and leading vision where it organizes summer training courses for high schools, university students and graduates of Kuwait University along with the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training followed by on-site training aiming to occupy the time of the youth and to best utilize such time in order to build a brighter future together.

CBK contributes 1% of its profit to support the activities of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS). Worthwhile to note the contribution within the last ten years amounted to approximately KD 6,000,000. CBK also played a major role in supporting educational activities for the Institute of Banking Studies, by offering an annual contribution to its budget.

Within its policy that aims at accentuating its participations in conferences, internal and external seminars, the Bank supports and sponsors these forums and is active and pro-active in all matters that help in improving Kuwait's image in international events and conferences organized in Kuwait and abroad. Employment Opportunities

Out of its commitment to apply the provisions of National Labor Support Law, and to encourage the national laborers to seek employment with the private sector and to activate the government's restructuring program, CBK contributes 2.5% of its operating profits to support national labor in implementation of the Minister of Finance's Resolution No. 26/2001. The Bank's role is not limited to this but it exceeds it by far since the Bank pays a special attention to provide employment opportunities to the Kuwaiti graduates by offering them employment and training on banking business. The Bank is very proud to have many distinguished Kuwaiti employees who contribute along with their veteran colleagues from other nationalities to create a distinctive banking environment.

In a very short time, Commercial Bank of Kuwait was able to increase the percentage of Kuwaiti employees working in the Bank where the percentage of national manpower reached 50% of the overall labor force in the Bank and hence the Bank complies with the mandatory percentage far before the target date established for this in 2007.

As the second oldest Bank in Kuwait, CBK aims to revive the Kuwaiti heritage in order to enlighten the present and future generations with their fathers' good deeds and history. This was reflected through the annual CBK calendar, which has become a reference that doesn't end by the end of the year but it is kept as a historical reference about Kuwait's history. It also presents the gleaming sides of the Kuwaiti heritage that may be forgotten nowadays due to technology and modern life. CBK's calendar is considered as an unprecedented step to maintain Kuwait's history for the future generation.

Cognizant of its role in reviving the Kuwaiti heritage & within its efforts to shade light on the past and in recognition of our first ancestors who laid the foundation of modern Kuwait, CBK supports the annual diving trip organized by "Kuwait Sea Sporting Club" under the patronage of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait. CBK also made a financial contribution to "The Third Cultural Festival" that was organized by "The Kuwaiti Volunteers Association" in assurance of its ongoing social interaction.

 

Interaction with Government Agencies and Non-Profit Making Organizations

Commercial Bank of Kuwait created a new understanding to better serve the society and to interact with its institutions and agencies.
