Youth Simran Vedvyas from Dubai UAE attends the First World Energy Forum 2012 in Dubai

World Energy Summit, Dubai addressed to global energy, poverty and sustainability.  The World Energy Forum 2012 took place at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center in Dubai, United Arab Emirates- 22nd -24th October 2012.  I was part of the Official Delegation U.A.E. I learnt a lot from attending this event and I am happy that U.A.E is taking such positive and progressive steps toward a sustainable future and the Future We Want.

Under the Patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Dubai hosted the First World Energy Forum to be held outside of the United Nations Headquarters, New York. The forum was attended by more than 20 heads of state, 40 ministers, 200 CEO’s and over 2500 delegates. The forum took place at the Dubai World Trade Centre from October 22nd to 24th, also acting as a platform for two other energy summits. Invitations for this were sent to 192 global member states of the United Nations. The United Nations has designated 2012 as the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All.

This high-level international energy conference aimed to chart a roadmap for a sustainable energy system that can benefit all nations and peoples and promote a New World Energy Order that can fuel global economic and social development throughout the United Nations Member States and facilitate a Global Movement for a more affordable, cleaner, safer, and sustainable energy for all.

It was a very prestigious event, as the name suggests this forum was all about Energy Conservation and Energy Reduction. Focus was put on Water and Energy, Sustainable Energy, Financing Energy, Energy Projects around the globe and so on. There were brainstorming sessions and plenty of round table conferences.

The Forum also showcased an imposing Exhibition where Companies used the platform to display their projects. HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein also attended this prestigious event and special sessions were arranged for Ladies only.

Dubai was selected to host this event after fierce competition from other international venues and cities, because of Dubai’s geographic and strategic location, its being a global hub for finance, business, trade, and tourism and the political stability of the United Arab Emirates.

UAE government seeks to ensure that the Emirates growing economy will have all the power it needs in the future by providing energy and water and ensuring the sustainability and protection of the environment.
