Guest Post by Rana Al Turk – International Youth Foundation, Jordan

This month marks the beginning of Badir, an exciting new initiative that aims to equip young Jordanian leaders with the knowledge and skills needed to strengthen and scale up their social change projects. Founded jointly by the International Youth Foundation (IYF) and Starbucks, Badir will initially run for three years, supporting 45 outstanding youth-led social innovation projects in Jordan through a range of proven leadership development activities.

The establishment of Badir builds on a decade of experience gained through IYF’s YouthActionNet® leadership program and a global partnership with Starbucks, via the Starbucks Foundation. Over the past few years, IYF and Starbucks have launched a social innovation fund to support youth-led social change initiatives all over the world through the Starbucks® Shared Planet® Youth Action Grants programme. Badir now benefits from becoming part of a global network of youth leadership development programmes established in partnership with YouthActionNet® in Australia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Chile, Honduras, Mexico, Peru, Spain, and Turkey. Each local program is deeply rooted in the society where it operates and works to strengthen youth leadership within individual countries and regions.

In Jordan, Badir will provide social innovation skills and management training to help energise youth-led projects. We'll be establishing an awards fund, helping to organise young social entrepreneurs around common issues, and advancing public understanding of the power and potential of youth-led community change. IYF is passionate in its belief that educated, employed, and engaged young people possess the power to solve the world’s toughest problems. And we've seen plenty of highly motivated, socially conscious young people in Jordan who love their country and want to play an active role in its development. These are the people that we'll be reaching out to in the coming months and helping to realize their full potential.
