LULU Hypermarket has won the prestigious Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Award for its role in promoting and marketing goods produced by productive families.

HRH Princess Sabeeka, wife of His Majesty King Hamad and president of the Supreme Council for Women, presented the award to LuLu Hypermarket regional director Juzer Rupawala at a ceremony at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre.

"As part of our corporate social responsibility policy, we have given major emphasis on supporting the activities of local communities and have always tried to promote their services," LuLu Hypermarket group managing director Yusuffali M A said.

"This has been a continuous process for us in all the countries we operate in. We humbly accept this great honour and vow to continue our responsibilities towards the Bahrain government and citizens," he said.

"LuLu Hypermarket has worked closely with the Productive Families Unit ever since we entered the Bahrain market and we believe that by translating our strong market presence into a channel for these families, we are empowering Bahraini families and helping to retain many of the traditional values, culinary practices and crafts of the kingdom," Mr Rupawala said.

The Productive Families initiative involves the marketing of handmade goods by low-income Bahraini families, allowing them to generate their own source of income.
