First Saudi Consumer Protection and Social Responsibility Forum to be launched in February

The First Saudi Consumer Protection and Social Responsibility Forum will be launched by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in association with Knowledge Corporation. The Forum, which will focus on the entire trading process will be held at the Hilton, Jeddah on February 14 to 16, 2012.

Initiated under the Patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Forum will discuss product availability at affordable prices and with high quality standards. Other areas of importance, such as ensuring fair competition in local markets, expanding the list of quality goods available for consumption, and reducing market-related crimes, fraud, and counterfeit goods will also be covered by highly qualified local and international speakers. The Forum will also look at appropriate standards of ethics in promoting products in the media, as well as providing customer services of high quality at affordable prices in all service areas.

The Forum, in seeking to help find optimal solutions for reducing market difficulties, will debate product safety, including product validity and integrity, especially of foodstuffs and agricultural products. It will also consider consumer protection in the areas of financial services, housing, transportation and communication and will additionally touch on education, media and community issues related to consumer protection and social responsibility.

Social responsibility is a cornerstone for the protection of consumers and it is only with the socially responsible involvement of all relevant parties that all required goods and services can be made available with the consumers' benefit in mind.
