District//S partners with JouzourLoubnan to help restore Lebanon's environment

District//S, a forward-thinking real estate project developed by Estates sal and located in the heart of Beirut, has formed a responsible and promising partnership with JouzourLoubnan, an environmental non-governmental organization, working towards the restoration of Lebanese woodland and promoting environmental awareness of natural resources amongst younger generations.

The partnership will see District//S contributing to the planting of one square meter of forest in arid regions of Lebanon with the sale of each square meter ofits built-up assets.

"For Estates, this newly-formed partnership is a small step towards the greening of Lebanon, but will hopefully serve as an example for other developers to follow towards environmental sustainability," said NamirCortas, CEO of Saifi Modern, the owner of District//S and co-founder of Estates.

Since 2008, JouzourLoubnan has planted 32,000 native trees in municipal lands across Lebanon's most arid regions, ensuring their maintenance, protection and irrigation.

"Our partnership with District//S will allow us to plant an additional 50.000 square meters," said Raoul Nehmé President of JouzourLoubnan. "We hope that this partnership will entice many more real estate developers to join our program 'One m² of forest for every m² built' because together, we can plant tomorrow's forests."

"Regardless of the sector we're in, we should all contribute one way or the other to improving our environment. Lebanon is far behind on environmental awareness and responsibility, and every effort in that direction counts," said Anthony El Khoury, CEO of Estates.

Through District//S, Lebanon will be the fifth country worldwide to target LEED for neighborhood development (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), an internationally recognized green building certification and will be the first sustainable neighborhood in Lebanon, the Arab world and the Mediterranean region.

The practices that will be used by District//S to ensure a sustainable neighborhood include:

• A ventilation and air-conditioning system providingfresh indoor air quality and only using environmental friendly gases.
• Rain water collection.
• Sustainably harvested timber.
• Building material with recycled content where possible.
• Design solutions will maximize reliance on daylight.

District//S will also actively encourage environmentally responsible attitudes through green areas, all pedestrian internal alleys, biking racks and preferred parking spots for hybrid and electric cars.
