Corporate Social Responsibility is important

A seminar on “Social Responsibility and its Role in Community Development,” was held in the Wilayat of Thumrait in the Governorate of Dhofar under the patronage of Ahmed bin Ali al A’mri, Adviser at the Office of Minister of State for Technical Affairs, in the presence of the Wali of Thumrait, officials and citizens. The seminar was organised by the branch of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) in the Governorate of Dhofar, in cooperation with the Middle East Centre for Consultancy and Social Studies. Shaikh Abdullah bin Salim Mahad al Rowas, Head of OCCI branch in the Governorate of Dhofar, affirmed the role of social responsibility in supporting and developing the community.

Ali Suhail Tabook, Chief Executive Officer of the Middle East Centre for Consultancy and Social Studies, Head of the Organising Committee of the seminar talked about the importance of the seminar and the role of the government and private institutions in developing the community to achieve stability and social justice. The seminar touched on three working papers on planning indicators to activate the role of institutions towards the social responsibility, corporate social responsibility from the legal perspective and the social responsibility in Islam. The seminar came up with a number of recommendations that included adding a legislative text in the companies law that mandates the companies on the commitment of the social responsibility and mandating foreign companies that desire to invest in the Sultanate as per the Capital Investment Law on the necessity of carrying out their social role towards the community.
