Under the high patronage and in presence of His Excellency the Minister of Social Affairs, Wael Abou Faour, and within the framework of its Corporate Social Responsibility Program, “Alfa 4-Life”, Alfa, the first mobile operator managed by Orascom Telecom, organized an art exhibition for a creative young artist from the Lebanese Autism Society (LAS), “Ali Tlais” at the Mark Hachem Gallery in Downtown Beirut, on Wednesday, the 20th of July 2011.
This Exhibition under the name of “Internal World and Creative Autism” took place in the presence of the Representative of H.E, the Minister of Telecommunications Nicolas Sehnaoui, Mr. Rami Majzoub, French Ambassador Denis Pietton, Belgian Ambassador Johan Verkammen, and the Canadian Ambassador Hilary Childs-Adams, former Minister and current MP Ghazi Zeaiter, in addition to artists Ghassan Saliba, Ghadi Rahbani, Ahmad Kaabour, media personality, Abd Al Ghani Tlais, Alfa management and team, figures from the civil society, with other stakeholders.
A variety of art works from paintings and drawings were displayed at the exhibition, all of them being painted by the autistic young artist, Ali, whose disability has never been a barrier for his creativity. In his works, Ali used complicated materials like the Pastel and watercolors. He has had close coaching from professional artist, Mrs. Rita Moukarzel, President of the Syndicate of the Graphic Designers and illustration in Lebanon, who was dedicated by Alfa for his training and qualification, with the outcome being Ali showing a select and outstanding art in the same level of any creative painter in society. Ali’s works were very well-appreciated by visitors of the exhibition and sold for the purpose of having the raised funds invested in a project aiming to improve the arts facilities at LAS.
On this occasion, Alfa’s Chairman &CEO, Eng. Marwan Hayek, was given the floor, and stated: “This initiative is a step stemming from the belief of Alfa, managed by Orascom Telecom, in our responsibility as a corporate citizen in the society where we live and operate. This initiative aims to support children, with communication needs, to be socially involved and interactive, helping them become productive and effective actors in society, and this project is proved to be feasible with what Ali could achieve today when the suitable support was well-ensured for him”. Hayek added “this initiative is one of a series of initiatives in a long CSR road map we are working on together, that Alfa has outlined in 2006, through its CSR program “Alfa 4-Life”, and now, Alfa is still going its way with even increased momentum”.
It’s worth mentioning that “Orascom Telecom Holding” (OTH) is the international leading mobile operator in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia and counts over 104 million subscribers.
