The second edition of the Ajman International Environment conference exhibition was inaugurated on Monday by His Highness Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman under the slogan “An innovative approach to sustainability.”

The first day of the conference that concludes on Wednesday was attended by 200 experts, scientists, researchers and students and representatives of the private sector in the field of environment from around the globe. 

Addressing the opening ceremony of the conference, Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, chairperson of the Department of Planning at Ajman Municipality, said protecting and preserving the environment to be free from pollution was one of the most important missions and objectives of the municipality, which is keen to ensure a safe and stable life for future generations. 

During the conference’s first day, participants showcased their experiences in the field of solar energy and renewable energy, in addition to ways of getting rid of air pollution and conserving land, sea and air to ensure safe and healthy lives.

Dr Rashid Bin Fahad, Minister of Water and Environment, said scientific and technological progress, pace of which has accelerated in the last two decades of the last century, has resulted in a major shift in the UAE’s ability to cope with the pressures of environmental challenges.

“This progress and the accumulation of our knowledge aided us here in the UAE to promote our understanding of our ecosystem and the nature of the changes it faces, a basis for developing a set of concepts, systems and use innovative technologies in the environment field,” he added.

The minister stressed that the methodologies and innovative solutions for sustainability are given due attention in the UAE, which was reflected clearly in the “Vision 2021” inspired by the national action programme launched by His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE.

“The UAE, as part of the world community, participates in the development and application of innovative solutions for the protection of the environment to ensure sustainability, which also emphasises the strategic plans of our government to encourage innovation and research in the field of environment development,” he added.
