- o First about myself My name is Mahmoud Sayed Ali from Luxor , Egypt . At the beginning of 2014 I was awarded a Ph.D in environmental science from Ain Shams University.
o Important thing I would like to be clear, I am a researcher in material and energy flow analysis in the context of industrial ecology thinking, so I have an open wide mind to operate my methods and tools in any kind of industry and industrial environment like cities, already I did that in a variety of industries such as (cement, Aluminum, sugar cane, Pulp paper based sugar cane, wood based sugar cane), I used the state of the art tools of industrial ecology like (industrial symbiosis – industrial metabolism – eco- industrial park). Within my skills in that field:
- Industrial Ecology and resource efficiency Applications in industrial sectors
- Discovering industrial symbiosis networks considering solar irradiation for the identification of valuable synergies.
- Concepts of eco-industrial park aiming for closed loop of wastes and byproducts.
- Input and output analysis of industrial sectors.
- Energy efficiency and analysis of local solar resources conditions regarding the deployment for Photovoltaic and CSP technologies.
- Environmental Cost Accounting.
- Environmental and Energy investment appraisal.
o Now my responsibility is head of environmental section and vice manager of the department and charge of all issues related to environmental management and day-to-day review of heath and safety risks at workplace.
o In 2015, I Approved as an Environmental Economic & Accounting Expert from the Egyptian Ministry of According to the Egyptian Environmental Law and according to my research and projects in that field.
o From 2013 to 2014 I worked as a researcher with IATech (German Co.) http://www.iatech.de/ for Studying Solar power (CSP-PV) integration in industrial and utility applications in Egypt. Still I have contact relationship with IATech and Institute for Industrial Ecology, Germany.
o In 2014 I finished My Ph.D subject which was about Industrial Ecology. The emerging discipline of copying nature's biological principles for design decisions to minimize environmental problems and achieve sustainable economic from the level of products and manufacturing to factories and regional economic.
o My application of industrial ecology thinking was vary and included different kinds of industries in Qena, Egypt such as Cement, Aluminum, sugar cane, Pulp paper based sugar cane, wood based sugar cane, all these industries was analyzed for its materials and energy flows, other sectors was involved especially solar energy and water in a synergic manner, three kinds of industrial ecology applications was examines and studied which included industrial metabolism, industrial symbiosis and eco-industrial parks. The area of my applications is now a national project called Golden triangle.
o During my work I have contact relationships with professors and experts from Europe and USA in the fields of industrial ecology, solar energy and such as Julish Solar institute, Germany and KATZEN International, USA, Institute for Industrial Ecology, Pforzheim University, Germany.
o In 2009 I awarded my mater degree, subject was about Environmental Management Accounting EMA which provides tools and methods to help companies assess the impact of measures taken to improve both corporate financial and environmental performance. It reveals financial benefits and cost savings potentials that can be gained from environmental considerations facing the business.
o I applied EMA tools in one cement firm in Upper Egypt. And to enhance my know-how and skills in EMA I was lucky at this time as I participated in the E-learning seminar during one month in 2007 which was part of EMA-SEA – Environmental Management Accounting for small and medium-sized enterprises in South-East Asia”. The project addressed the implementation and dissemination of EMA in South-East Asian companies to promote sustainable business. The project runs from November 2003 to October 2007. The project sponsored by German government and conduced by The Centre for Sustainability Management (CSM) at the University of Lunenburg, Germany. Still I have strong contact relationships with German professors and experts in the field of EMA.
o The main purpose of my study was to use EMA tools to tackle problems associated with of Environmental Management systems ISO 14000. In 2011 - International Organization for Standardization ISO launched ISO 14051:2011 which provides a general framework for material flow cost accounting (MFCA), the same purpose of my thesis.
o Now I am participating in a massive training course about CSR Creating Shared Value through Responsible Business in John D. Gerhart Center for Philanthropy & Civic Engagement at The American University in Cairo, the Program consists from 4 workshops will continue in the next 3 months , I successfully completed the 1st workshop in May 2017.
o I involved in many E-leering courses in environmental sciences, green economy, industries and energy management from pioneer intuitions in Europe and USA.
o I conducted many research studies in the fields of environmental and sustainability concepts in industrial sectors and sustainable cities.
o About my skills, I can speak English and I involved in a regular course for many years with native English teacher from England UK in Luxor, Egypt.
o Regarding to my computer skills I completed my ICDL so I am able to work effectively in Microsoft office software's. In addition, I completed SPSS statistical training.
